In Karaman, an Event Titled “The Mysterious World of Vultures” Was Held Within the Scope of TÜBİTAK Science Talks

Within the framework of the Science Talks program conducted in line with TÜBİTAK's vision of “Bringing Science to Society, Bringing Society to Science,” an impressive event was held on May 16, 2025, at Karaman Prof. Dr. Ömer Dinçer Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi. Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Yasemin Özdemir, Director of the Wildlife Conservation, Rehabilitation Application and Research Center, participated as a speaker.

In the presentation under the title “The Mysterious World of Vultures”; comprehensive information was shared about the biological characteristics of vultures, species diversity, their roles within the ecosystem, and their distribution areas in Turkey. Dr. Yasemin Özdemir emphasized the critical role vultures play in wildlife conservation, providing scientifically based explanations about the functions of these species in the natural cycle. The field images, visual materials, and interactive presentation techniques used during the event aroused great interest among the students.

The event was not limited to the transfer of information but also attracted attention with a question-and-answer section shaped by the active participation of students. In this section, students asked questions about the life cycle of vultures, threats, and conservation efforts. Dr. Yasemin Özdemir answered these questions in detail, providing examples from both academic research processes and her experiences in the field.

This event, which constitutes an important part of TÜBİTAK Science Talks, has been a strong example in terms of creating ecological awareness and environmental consciousness among young individuals at the high school level. This talk, where the goal of bringing science to society was successfully realized, took place with content that will remain in the memories of the participants for a long time.

At the end of the program, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Yasemin Özdemir and the school's TÜBİTAK coordinator Seher Ceylan by the school Principal Murat Şen.
